A Chain of Flowers

I took these pictures at the end of summer, to capture an outfit I was wearing a lot during this phase. I love the leopard print top, as it feels familiar and always comfortable. I wore dark jeans, and my New Look embroidered jacket with contrast sleeves in a silver tone. It was an unexpected decision to add the flower crown, as I thought the pink tones in the roses would coordinate nicely with the embroidery on the jacket, making the look a little more bohemian with a romantic feel. It was my first time wearing these accessories all together, and I was really happy with the end result.

Looking at these pictures reminds me of that day, and also makes me think of one of my favourite (and in my view underrated) songs by The Cure, A Chain of Flowers. The lyrics and the atmospheric mood of the song seem perfectly suited to that day, especially since I was wearing a flower crown.

During the summer, I often felt as though things were at a standstill in my personal and work life. I couldn't see a way to move forward, and sometimes it seemed like my efforts were in vain. Then all of a sudden, things started to happen quickly and gain momentum. Since then, I've had a few positive developments in my personal and work life which came as a surprise, and for which I'm thankful. I hope to share these developments with you in proper detail soon.

In the meantime, I hope you love this look. Please let me know what you think in the comments below. I've also included a link to the song A Chain of Flowers, which I hope you'll listen to and adore as much as I do.

Thanks for dropping by, and I hope to see you again very soon. Lots of love Saba xx

Savile Row Swallow Print Shirt and Embellished Denim

Hi everyone! I hope you're having a great weekend so far. For this outfit post, I decided to create a slightly different look to my signature style, by wearing a smart shirt in an unconventional way. The shirt I'm wearing is from the Savile Row ladies' collection. Savile Row are famous for their impeccable tailoring and high standards, and this particular shirt was surprisingly affordable and accessible, retailing at T.K Maxx for just £16.99. As you can see in the detail shots below, this classic white shirt features a whimsical swallow print, giving a fresh twist to a work wear staple and making it unexpectedly playful. I teamed the shirt with my indigo jeans which have little gemstone embellishments, and my everyday watch with a white dial and grey strap. I completed the look with a decorative hair slide with red crystal petals, to coordinate with the small red gemstones on my jeans. I tied my shirt at the waist to avoid covering up the embroidery on the jeans. I haven't tied my shirt that way since I was a youngster! I don't think I'll be wearing it that way again though, as it wouldn't stay put. I had straightened my hair beforehand, but after getting caught in the rain, it became unruly again and I ended up with tendrils (as I like to call them).

If you like this outfit and you're looking for a similar shirt, you can visit the Savile Row website to see their range of classically tailored shirts with quirky prints for women.

Overall I liked this outfit, even though the smart shirt was a departure from my signature style. What do you think of this look? Please let me know in the comments below.

Thanks for dropping by and hope to see you very soon. Lots of love Saba xx

Spirit Animals and Lucky Charms

What’s your spirit animal? Mine would have to be a tiger, as it has many characteristics I aspire to, especially its strength. You may recall my tiger obsession from this earlier post (Tiger, tiger, burning bright). Sometimes I have a timid approach in life, always proceeding with caution and making decisions carefully. But the tiger seems to have no such limitations. While I can’t be a big cat for a day, it was lovely to put on this striking jacket by Glamorous, which has three embroidered tigers on it (front and back!), and is lovingly detailed. I’ve never seen embroidery this elaborate before. I could hardly believe my luck getting it on ASOS, as it was heavily reduced and normally retails for triple the price (£93). It was the last one they had and I saw it purely by chance, and ordered it on the spot. Amazingly, it was the right fit. I’ve included a link to a similar tiger-embroidered jacket at the end of this post, for those who would like to recreate this look.

I’ve always believed in the transformative power of clothes, and their ability to create a persona. Sometimes it even seems possible they have unknown powers, like they do in many myths and legends. Donning this jacket helped me to feel bolder, and channel the strength and confidence I wish I had more of. Naturally, I had to accessorise the look with my faithful tiger stud earrings to add a little sparkle, as that was only fitting. I also have shorter hair now, perhaps you've noticed? For the finishing touch, I applied a slick of eyeliner in jet black to add some drama. I headed to one of my favourite haunts and captured these images before sundown.

I hope you love this look and the resulting pictures. Please comment below and let me know!

And please remember to support the work of WWF, which is doing great things to protect endangered big cats. Learn more about how you can be a tiger protector at this link.

Thanks so much for dropping by and see you soon. Lots of love Saba xx
